Knee Replacement Surgery for Worn, Painful Joints

If knee pain is stopping you from climbing stairs, walking, or sleeping through the night, you do not have to keep living with it. When the joint is too worn for injections or physiotherapy to keep helping, knee replacement surgery can give you back a stable, more comfortable knee.

Dr Chin Pak Lin replaces the worn joint with a precisely fitted implant using robotic-assisted and computer-aided techniques, so you can regain mobility and independence. Total knee replacement is a well established procedure. General clinical data shows high satisfaction rates, with implants that commonly last around 20 years.

Could a Knee Replacement Help You?

Knee replacement is usually considered when the joint is worn enough to affect daily life and other treatments have stopped helping. You may benefit if you notice some of the following.

  • Knee pain that continues despite physiotherapy, medication, or injections
  • Stiffness or pain that makes stairs, walking, or sleep difficult
  • An X-ray or scan showing advanced wear or arthritis in the joint
  • A knee that gives way, locks, or no longer straightens fully

The only way to be sure is an assessment. Dr Chin Pak Lin will examine your knee, review your scans, and tell you whether surgery is the right step or whether a non-surgical option suits you better.

New Robotic Knee Replacement

The new robotic-assisted approach is one of the latest advances in knee replacement surgery. The system maps your knee in real time and guides each step with a high degree of accuracy. In the hands of an experienced surgeon, this supports precise implant positioning and a fit matched to your knee.

Why patients consider robotic knee replacement

  • No CT or MRI scan needed before surgery, which means less waiting and lower cost
  • More accurate implant alignment, which can help the implant last longer
  • Less soft tissue disturbance, which can mean less pain after surgery
  • A quicker, more comfortable return to walking and daily activities

What to Expect, From Surgery to Recovery

Knowing what happens at each stage makes the decision easier. This is the general path for a knee replacement with Dr Chin Pak Lin. Your own timeline depends on your health and how your knee responds.

1

Before surgery

A consultation, scans, and a clear explanation of the plan. With robotic surgery, no CT or MRI scan is needed beforehand.

2

The procedure

The worn joint is replaced with a fitted implant using robotic-assisted, computer-guided techniques, usually under spinal or general anaesthesia.

3

Hospital stay

Most patients stay a few days. The care team helps you stand and take your first steps soon after surgery.

4

Early recovery

Walking aids and physiotherapy support you through the first weeks as strength and movement return.

5

Getting back to life

Many patients return to driving and light activity within weeks, with improvement continuing over the following months.

These are general guides, not a fixed promise. Dr Chin Pak Lin will give you a recovery plan suited to your situation.
